The NERA interest group for Ph.D.students (VPO –in Dutch- VOR Promovendi Overleg) aims to enable Ph.D.students to exchange information related to the fields of interest in which the NERA is active. It is open to all Ph.D. students who recognise one or more of these fields of interest as their area of research. Ph.D. students are all those (junior) researchers working on their thesis or in anticipation of such a position in the near future. The prime objective is the exchange of information on current research and on the possibilities of academic education. To reach this aim we organise activities on our own, apart from those organised by the NERA.

The VPO has over 175 members from different universities in the Netherlands and Belgium. Our activities aim to stimulate interaction about research, the position of Ph.D. students as well as more light-hearted matters. This is done by means of three ‘VPO-afternoons’ each year. These afternoons are organised by the VPO committee, and will be held in Utrecht. Each VPO-afternoon is focused on a specific theme, e.g. ‘Learning in a big town’. Besides thematic workshops and discussions, the Ph.D. students exchange information about the nature of their doctoral research.

In addition to this, VPO’s own website gives up-to-date information about interesting activities for Ph.D. students in the field of educational research.
